In Summer Term 1 we will be studying the topic - Flow
In English, we will be reading the brilliant book ‘This Morning I Met A Whale’ by Michael Morpurgo.
We will be doing lots of varied writing tasks, including writing a newspaper report, based on our class text, using descriptive vocabulary and writing in the correct person and tense throughout the tasks.
In our grammar work this half term, we will be focusing on choosing nouns or pronouns appropriately for clarity and cohesion and to avoid repetition in our writing. Also, we will be developing our learning on using conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions to express time and cause in our descriptive writing.
Please continue to access Bug Club at home which gives extra opportunities for pupils to develop their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
This half term we will be learning all about time. We will be telling and writing the time from an analogue (hands) clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII. We will use 12-hour and 24-hour clocks and use time vocabulary accurately including a.m./p.m, morning, afternoon, noon and midnight. Also, we will estimate and read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute as well as learning facts related to hours, minutes and the months of the year.
We will continue to develop our skills at fluently recalling and using multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4, and 8 x tables both in and out of sequence.
During our Science lessons we will be learning all about the structure and functions of the parts of a flowering plant, including roots, stem, leaves and flowers. We will explore the requirements of plants for life and growth and how they vary from plant to plant. During this topic, we will also investigate the way in which water is transported within plants and the role that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants.
In our Geography lessons, we will be exploring the key features of a river and analysing its course. Plus, we will locate and research the major rivers of the world.
In our Art lessons, we will research and produce artwork based on the impressionist artist, Claude Monet
This half term’s R.E. will be looking at the question, why are festivals important to religious communities?
In Computing, we will be learning about emailing this half term.
In our French lessons, we are learning all about ice-creams and their delicious flavours (Les Glaces) this half term.
This half term’s PSHE lessons will focus on the topic Growing and Changing where we will learn about how our bodies change as we get older and what personal space is. Following this, we will focus on concepts of basic first aid.
In our Music lessons, we will be listening to, singing and appraising the song ‘Bringing Us Together’ and other Disco songs about friendship, peace, hope and unity.
Year 3 will continue their weekly swimming sessions at Middleton Arena on Thursdays throughout Summer Term 1.
