Before you begin to explore, here is a little information about Elm Wood Primary School.
This is a warm and welcoming school where all children are valued, feel secure and develop into confident life-long learners.
The building itself was built between 1908 and 1910 and designed by the architect Edgar Wood. English Heritage consider the building to be one of the most important of its kind in Europe.
There are at present 15 classrooms in the main school building; including a nursery which caters for 26 morning and 26 afternoon children and 8 two year old children. The nursery provides a highly motivating inside and outside learning environment.
Facilities in the school include: a separate canteen (which is away from the main building), a large library, a vast outdoor area for EYFS, a Therapeutic Inclusion Room (Th.Inc Room) and a music room. Within the school grounds there are two purpose made adventure areas: one for the infant children and one for the junior children, a trim trail with outdoor gym equipment, a nature area/ ECO garden and extensive well maintained grounds with multi-purpose pitches. This provides opportunities for our children to participate in over fifteen sporting activities.
There are 15 classes - 2 for each year group and 2 nursery classes. Our nursery children are fully integrated in school, for example, the children perform at Christmas and in class assemblies in front of the school. They often attend assemblies and use the main hall for P.E. Nursery and Reception teachers also plan together to ensure that the children make progress in their transition from Nursery to Reception.
You will receive a curriculum newsletter each half term, from your class teacher to inform you about what the children are learning in each subject area.
Each month, you will receive a newsletter which will provide an insight into all that is happening in school. If you would like more detailed information and/or a tour of the school, please telephone and make an appointment with Miss Rawes our school Business Manager.
